Sharjah’s Major Pest Control Drive for Public Health

Pest control plays a crucial role in maintaining public health and hygiene, especially in growing urban areas like Sharjah. With its mix of residential neighborhoods, farmlands, and urban infrastructure, the city faces unique challenges when it comes to controlling pests such as mosquitoes, insects, and rodents. Recognizing this, Sharjah City Municipality has launched an extensive pest control campaign targeting over 163,000 sites across the emirate.

This campaign isn’t just reactive—it’s a comprehensive, proactive approach to safeguarding the environment and its residents. Using digital traps, fogging machines, and ultra-fine mist sprayers, the municipality focuses on eliminating flying pests in high-risk areas. More importantly, the initiative targets the root of the problem: breeding grounds. Inspections are routinely carried out in places like gardens, sewage openings, swimming pools, palm tree bases, irrigation tanks, wells, and even air conditioning water collections—all common areas for mosquito and insect breeding.

Rodent control is equally prioritized. The municipality uses various types of baits and specially designed boxes to monitor and eliminate rodent activity. To further ensure safety and effectiveness, biological insecticides and insect growth regulators derived from natural substances are used—proven to be safe for humans and the environment.

According to Adel Omar, Director of Public Health and Central Laboratories, these efforts are part of an ongoing initiative that intensifies during the winter months when breeding conditions improve for pests. Through continuous monitoring and treatment of water collection and waste accumulation sites, Sharjah aims to curb the spread of disease-carrying insects and maintain a higher standard of public health.

In summary, pest control services in Sharjah are not just a routine operation—they are a vital part of the city's public health framework. With the support of advanced tools and sustainable practices, Sharjah is actively working to create cleaner, safer communities for all its residents.
