Dubai Rolls Out Smart Traps for Eco-Friendly Pest Control

Dubai is stepping up its fight against mosquitoes and insects with an innovative, high-tech solution. The municipality announced on Friday that 237 smart traps have been installed across key areas of the city, marking a bold advancement in the emirate's efforts to ensure public health and safety.

Unlike traditional pest control methods, these smart traps are eco-friendly and solar-powered, offering 24/7 monitoring capabilities. Integrated with intelligent tracking systems, they help authorities accurately monitor insect populations and pinpoint mosquito breeding hotspots. By doing so, Dubai aims to create a cleaner, more sustainable living environment for residents and visitors alike.

This smart solution is part of Dubai’s ongoing commitment to proactive pest control. Residents can already apply for free pest control services through Dubai Municipality, with service types varying slightly for citizens and expatriates. Still, the unified goal remains—keeping homes and communities safe from infestations.

Dubai's efforts are not new. After last year’s record-breaking rains, the UAE government, led by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE), launched a nationwide campaign targeting mosquito breeding grounds. This involved extensive fieldwork to eliminate stagnant water and reduce infestation risks in both urban and rural settings.

Public participation plays a vital role in the success of these efforts. Authorities continue to urge residents to report breeding sites—especially stagnant water in gardens, parks, construction sites, stables, or unused pools—to ensure rapid response and effective prevention.

With this high-tech initiative and collaborative public support, Dubai is well on its way to becoming one of the most pest-resilient and health-conscious cities in the region.
